The upper body tube subassembly is the simplest part of the rocket and it has only one purpose, to connect the electronics bay to the nosecone that contains the drogue parachute. It is a simple 17.5in (191mm) long section of 6.17in (157mm) OD, 6.0in (152mm) ID, G10 fiberglass airframe tube from Madcow Rocketry. This length was chosen so that the full length of the upper section of the electronics bay and the full length of the nosecone coupler could fit inside the body tube without colliding with each other. The bottom of the tube rigidly connects to the electronics bay subassembly via six 8-32 flat head screws. Each of these screws thread into adhesive mount nuts inside the tube coupler of the electronics bay. The top connects to the nosecone subassembly via six nylon shear pins from Apogee Components. To help prevent premature separation due to pressure differences between the inside and outside of the airframe during flight, a small, 0.188in (4.78mm) diameter hole is drilled into the middle section of the body tube.
